Wes' Hip Hop Posts Save My Life (And Possibly Yours)
I won't try to hide my love for the urban genres. Rap grew me, so to speak, so It's only right that I love it back. Apparently. Wes- the dude from Brooklyn Vegan, who I've ganked content from before, is sitting on the same beat brazened stoop. On that day I drank fancy, $ 40 water with Masta Killa, Wes was there. When I was wedged between 50 billion hot, sweaty Wu-Tang fans at Rock the Bells...Wes was back stage. He clearly has the upper hand on me, but I'm not mad, cuz I just downloaded a new Styles P mix tape thanks to that dude, and I couldn't be happier. So yes- I'm essentially telling you to check out Wes, if you don't already- because he may have more street cred than any other person from the Netherlands that know.

The RIAA Is NOT Your Friend....

So, peep game. Brooklyn Vegan and the AP broke the story that the first court case in relation to downloading music resulted in Jammie Thomas, 30, being ordered to pay RIAA $220,000! DAMNS. Everyone is pushing the single mother bit, that its unfair that a single income-single mom is now going to have to pay off the RIAA for the rest of her life. I think its just ridiculous that anyone would have to pay this period, let alone a single mommy.
Thomas turned down a several thousand dollar settlement, because she wasn't gonna let the man keep her down...which, in hindsight, looks like a bad career decision. Keep your head up Jammie!

Heart of The City (Ain't No Love)
Gentrification is a bitch, but the inhabitants of Brook-land, NY know this all too well. In a trend that can be dated back to Robet Moses' projects in the Bronx and the seedier parts of New York City, more and more neighbourhoods in NYC are becoming real estate hot beds. The NY Times is reporting on the changes that are taking on Greenpoint's waterfront, and how uppity the yuppites are getting over it. I can hear the war cries now: "We don't want cooler, richer people to move in"! In an effort to maintain the historic beauty of the area, the "National Trust for Historic Preservation plans to sound the alarm by declaring Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront one of America’s 11 most endangered historic places", the Times reports.
This makes me laugh. When those too poor to live in Manhattan were booted to outer boroughs to make space for the elite, no one said word one. When those same entrenched communities were then forced out of Brooklyn, nothing muttered on their behalf. Now the Historic Preservation is coming to the aid? I guess I wouldn't be so concerned if I wasn't one of those scraping by. Lets just hope that the Historic club of nerds protects Bed-Stuy in respect of Biggie.

Alkada Jada?
In case you have yet to notice, I have changed the way I post. Instead of long posts, filled to the brim with info, I've opted to just do lots of little posts, that are easier to search for via labels and titles. This means instead of one post every few days, over night I have jumped to lots of posts in an evening. I'm just tryin to help you get your grade reading levels up. So, you're welcome.
Last night, I hit a download payload. It was glorious. Brooklyn Vegan's "hip-hop round up" provided me with some awesome things, including, but not limited to: A Jadakiss mix tape that's pretty decent with very little DJ-background noise, a new L.Boogie (Lauryn Hill) single, and four tracks off an unreleased Rah Digga Album. I'm so pleased, and you will be too! Move on it quick, before the links are all dried up.
Enjoy!
